Pathfinder Dogs
Pathfinder Dogs received its charity status in 2003 and its company status in 2004. Before we reached these two milestones a number of surveys had been carried out with a large portion of the blind people throughout the UK who had previously worked a guide dog. We wanted to make sure there was a demand before we entered into such a large venture. Being a relatively new and boutique charity we, like many others, find funding a challenge. We do not receive any government funding or Lottery funding. Most of our funds are raised by donations and sponsored events.
We are here solely to train German Shepherds as guides to blind people.
We are NOT connected to GDBA (Guide Dogs for the Blind Association) apart from on friendly terms that is! We aim to fill a growing demand for German Shepherd Dogs for those blind people that want them as working dogs and of course are able to work safely and successfully with a German Shepherd Dog.
Our founder Anne also spends time talking to groups and businesses regarding blindness and working with dogs.
